Supporting Race for Life 2015

Sunday 14th June 2015 will always be a special day for me.  It was the day that the ‘Wilkinson Walkers’ laced our trainers and took park in the 5k Race for Life event in Bath’s Royal Victoria Park.  Thanks to the kindness and the generosity of individuals and companies like CSM Logistics we raised a princely sum of £410 for Cancer Research UK, through our Just Giving page.

Cancer Research UK work towards finding new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, they are currently researching 200 types of cancer and all the work they do is funded through donations.  So events like the Race for Life are vital to ensure this work can take place.

The Race for Life is a series of women-only events.  There are almost 300 events taking place through 2015 and many towns will be hosting races, in which hundreds of thousands of women will take part.  Race lengths vary from 5k to a Marathon.  The Race for Life Marathon will be the UK’s first ever women-only Marathon and it is set to take place in Lee Valley, London on 4th October.  There are also ‘Pretty Muddy’ races where competitors complete a muddy obstacle course.

Now, neither of the Wilkinson Walkers pretend to be athletes, or even runners hence the group name, but we wanted to take part in this event to raise a little money for this great cause, and in all honesty we are overwhelmed and delighted with the amount we have raised.

Cancer is a frightening illness, and one that has touched the lives of far too many.  It is present in our family’s life, and from being amongst others taking part in the Race for Life, it has shown to be part of many others too.  Each person taking part in the Race is given a sign to attach to their back, each sign was blank so the person racing can write the reason they were there.  I read so many of these signs, and whether these ladies were there in remembrance or celebration it was impossible to ignore how wide spread and indiscriminate the illness is.

So it is with great pride that we thank you again for supporting us – it really means a lot!
